Policy change cycles from 3 weeks to a few hours—without a single engineering ticket.

A scheduled commercial bank's credit policy was hard-wired in their loan origination system's code. Every adjustment required IT involvement, a testing cycle, and a release window. We gave the risk committee direct control over decision logic through a no-code rule engine.

The Challenge

The bank's credit policy was encoded as hard-wired logic inside their legacy loan origination system. Changing a decision threshold—even a minor one like adjusting a minimum credit score cutoff—required raising an IT ticket, going through a development sprint, UAT testing, and a scheduled release window. In practice, this meant the risk committee was operating on credit policy that was 3–4 weeks out of date by the time changes reached production. The system also had no execution logging, so the risk team had no visibility into which rules fired on which decisions.

What We Built

We delivered a no-code rule engine platform that gives the bank's credit and risk team direct authoring access to all decision logic. Rules are composed through a structured expression builder, tested against real sample data in a sandbox environment, reviewed, and promoted to production with a single approval action. Every rule version is stored in full. Every rule execution is logged with the input data, matched rule path, and output—giving the risk committee complete audit visibility into why each decision was made.

Key Capabilities Delivered

  • No-code rule authoring with a structured expression builder accessible to credit analysts
  • Sandbox testing against real historical application data before any rule reaches production
  • Full version history with one-click rollback to any prior rule state
  • Complete execution log: inputs, outputs, and matched rule path on every decision
  • Sub-100ms API response time under concurrent production load
  • Approval workflow for rule promotion with maker-checker controls

The Outcome

Policy change cycles compressed from 3 weeks to a few hours. The risk committee can now respond to credit environment changes—macro shifts, portfolio anomalies, seasonal adjustments—without waiting for an engineering release window. The audit trail and instant rollback capability gave the committee the confidence to iterate quickly. As Rajesh Nair, Chief Risk Officer at the bank, noted: "The rule engine alone transformed how our credit team operates. The rollback capability gave our risk committee the confidence to move fast."
